Emmilou Daycare Lombok

At Emmilou Daycare, we believe in celebrating diversity and embracing the richness of cultures from around the world. Recently, our little learners had the opportunity to dive into the vibrant traditions of Hinduism by participating in a special activity: coloring Ogoh-Ogoh in Lombok to commemorate Nyepi Day.
Understanding Nyepi Day
Nyepi, also known as the Day of Silence, is a sacred Hindu holiday observed in Bali and other parts of Indonesia. It marks the beginning of the Hindu New Year and is a time for self-reflection, meditation, and spiritual cleansing. During Nyepi, the island comes to a complete standstill, with no activities allowed in public spaces, including work, travel, and entertainment.
The Significance of Ogoh-Ogoh
Leading up to Nyepi, communities across Bali and Lombok come together to create elaborate sculptures known as Ogoh-Ogoh. These towering effigies represent evil spirits and are paraded through the streets in a vibrant procession called the Ngrupuk Parade. The purpose of the parade is to chase away negative energies and purify the environment before Nyepi Day.
Engaging in Cultural Learning
To introduce our young learners to the beauty and significance of Nyepi Day, we organized a special activity focused on coloring Ogoh-Ogoh. Armed with crayons, markers, and their boundless creativity, the children embarked on an artistic journey to bring these mythical creatures to life. Guided by our educators, they learned about the symbolism behind Ogoh-Ogoh and the importance of purification rituals in Hinduism.

Embracing Creativity and Expression
As the children immersed themselves in the coloring process, they expressed their creativity and imagination through vibrant colors and intricate designs. Each stroke of the crayon became a testament to their understanding and appreciation of Hindu culture. Through hands-on activities like this, we aim to foster a sense of curiosity, respect, and empathy towards different cultures and traditions.
Celebrating Diversity at Emmilou Daycare
At Emmilou Daycare, we believe in creating an inclusive environment where children from all backgrounds can learn, grow, and thrive together. By exploring diverse cultures and traditions, we encourage our little learners to develop a global perspective and respect for the world around them. Through meaningful experiences like coloring Ogoh-Ogoh, we sow the seeds of cultural understanding and appreciation that will blossom into lifelong values of tolerance and acceptance.
